Vol. 221 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Haulage of Seaweed.

13.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will consider introducing legislation which would remove the haulage of seaweed completely from the provisions of the Road Transport Act in order to facilitate such haulage on the west coast of Ireland.

Seaweed is generally collected by persons operating under a licence issued under the Foreshore Act and the seaweed, being their own property, is not deemed to be carried for reward under the Road Transport Acts.

I am not prepared to introduce legislation to exclude the carriage of seaweed from the Road Transport Acts.
