Vol. 221 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Nelson Pillar.

48.

Mr. O'Leary

asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been drawn to the statement which purported to give an inside story on the events leading up to the explosion of Nelson Pillar, Dublin; and whether this account has been of any assistance to the police officers investigating the case.

I have seen the newspaper report in question. The answer to the second part of the question is in the negative.

While talking about explosions, could the Minister say for the public information whether the explosion last night was a supersonic bang, or does he know?

It is a separate question.

It is, but it is of wide interest.

The Deputy's is a possible interpretation. It certainly was not a bang on terra firma.

Mr. O'Malley

Perhaps it was an echo from the Deputy's speech of last week.

Where is Deputy Carter? Wait until he starts making his speech to Longford County Council.

49.

asked the Minister for Justice if having regard to the magnitude of claims against Dublin Corporation for compensation in respect of malicious injury arising out of the demolition of Nelson Pillar he will introduce legislation to idemnify the corporation in respect thereof and thereby relieve the ratepayers of the burden of paying such compensation.

I do not propose to introduce legislation on the lines suggested by the Deputy.
