Vol. 221 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Houses.

14.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he expects to sanction loans for 40 houses at Lucan, 24 houses at Willbrook and five houses at Rathcoole, County Dublin.

15.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he will sanction tenders for 46 houses at Saggart, 14 houses at Santry and one house at Newcastle, County Dublin.

I propose, with your permission, a Leas-Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 14 and 15 together.

I am not yet in a position to say when a decision will be given on these proposals. Dublin County Council, in common with other housing authorities, are being notified this week of their provisional capital allocation for local authority housing purposes, and are being asked to review their commitments and establish their order of priority of new works to be undertaken on the basis of that allocation. The position in regard to the various proposals before my Department will be further reviewed in the light of the council's decisions.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary tell me whether it will be left to the discretion of the council as to what scheme they may send to the Minister?

You can take it that the council will have a fair amount of discretion. That is the general idea.

Will such scheme require the further sanction of the Department?

I think it will have to come back to the Department.

16.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he will sanction plans for 148 houses at Cabinteely, 44 houses at Balbriggan and 28 houses at Churchtown Road, County Dublin.

Revised plans for 116 dwellings and 32 private sites at Cabinteely were received in my Department on the first of this month. A decision on these will be given as soon as possible. A layout plan and specification for 44 dwellings at Balbriggan were approved last week subject to minor revisions. Plans for 28 flats at Churchtown were also approved last week.

I hope it will not take as long as sanction for the £40,000.

You would have sanction quickly enough if it did not cost money.
