Vol. 221 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Kiosks.

35.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will consider the erection of a telephone kiosk in New Tipperary, Donaghmore, County Cork.

The use likely to be made of a kiosk at the place in question would not be sufficient to justify its provision.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will consider the erection of a telephone kiosk at Stuake, Donoughmore, County Cork.

A kiosk at the place in question would not be used sufficiently to justify its provision.

Is the Minister aware that the two places mentioned in my two questions are within a half-mile of each other and are about eight miles from the nearest doctor and 20 miles from the nearest veterinary surgeon and, in view of the long delay in relation to the installation of private telephones, would the Minister not consider the erection of one kiosk between those two places?

Really, neither of them is very far from a public telephone and both places have subpost offices open for the normal hours during the day and available for emergency calls later in the day. In addition there are telephones in the areas, some with coin boxes. I would not think either area is completely inconvenienced for want of a telephone service.

I entirely disagree with the Minister.
