Vol. 221 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Blanchardstown (Dublin) Exchange.

37.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when work on the telephone exchange in Blanchardstown, County Dublin will be completed; and when applicants in that area may expect to get telephones.

The exchange was opened in December last. It is hoped to offer service to practically all the waiting applicants in the near future.

Is the Minister aware that in answer to a previous question, he promised that this should be all finished by the middle of January this year and that applicants tell me they have been waiting for a couple of years and are still waiting?

The answer given to the previous question was something to that effect. These were the hopes at that time. The contractor did not complete the exchange as quickly as might have been expected. The laying of cables is the only thing holding up the complete clearance of the pre-1965 applicants in the area and possibly some of the others, too. This is due to circumstances beyond my control. I do not think there will be too long a delay.

Does that mean two months?

They are actually working on them at the moment.
