Vol. 221 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Purchase of Short Haul Jets.

7.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether Aer Lingus have made arrangements to purchase one or more of the new Boeing short haul jets; and, if so, if he will state the reason for choosing this particular type of aircraft rather than the BAC one-eleven at present in use by Aer Lingus.

The company have placed an order for two 117-seater Boeing 737 aircraft for service on the Dublin-London route, one for delivery in 1968 and the other in 1969. The choice of aircraft is, of course, solely one for the company. It is understood that the principal reasons influencing the choice of the aircraft in question were suitability of size for this particular route, economy of operation and early delivery dates.
