Vol. 222 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Sligo Lands.

28.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware of the number of holdings let on the eleven months system over a period of years, in some cases amounting to 20 years, in the Carrowneagh Cooper, Rathscanlon area of Tubbercurry, County Sligo; and if he will direct the attention of the Land Commission to them with a view to acquisition or distribution amongst the many uneconomic holders in that area.

I understand that a number of holdings in the district referred to in the Question are on record for inquiry by the Land Commission with a view to ascertaining their suitability for land settlement purposes. For County Sligo as a whole, proceedings are at present in progress for the compulsory acquisition or voluntary purchase of some 4,700 acres and a further area of about 1,500 acres is the subject of inquiry by the Land Commission with a view to ascertaining its suitability for acquisition.
