Vol. 222 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Illegal Organisations.

35.

asked the Minister for Justice if in view of general public concern he will state what effective action the Government propose to take to deal with the unlawful activities of illegal organisations.

While the Deputy does not specify the unlawful activities which he has in mind, or what he means by effective action, he may be assured that the Garda Síochána will take all possible measures, within their powers, to prevent the commission of crime, and bring offenders to justice. It is, however, not considered to be necessary at this time to seek further powers for the Garda by means of new legislation.

Does the Minister think he is likely to get co-operation from the Garda, in view of the fact he has scrapped the Garda band?

I take it the first apprehension will be the Gas Company?
