Vol. 222 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Explosion at Military Attaché's Home.

36.

asked the Minister for Justice whether the Gardaí have completed their investigations into the recent explosion at the home of the British Military Attaché; if so, with what result; whether a report in the matter has been presented to the British Ambassador; and, if so, if he will make copies of it available.

Garda inquiries into the fire at the home of the British Military Attaché are continuing. The results of any Garda investigations of any crime, except in so far as they may be disclosed in subsequent court proceedings, are not for general publication. What report, if any, might be made to an interested party must, likewise, remain confidential.

Will the Minister tell us what the Government are hiding?

Nothing is being hidden at all.

Go way out of that. The country is full of rumours.

Circulated by the Deputy.

If the Deputy wants to generate hysteria, he can.

More hysteria is being generated by the Government's silence in the rather ominous situation developing.

The Fine Gael Party might have made a practical contribution on the First Stage of the Bill introduced to repeal the Offences Against the State Act.

(Interruptions.)

When we opposed the Bill, the Fine Gael Party marched into the lobbies and voted for it.

You are being asked to answer a simple question. There is no need to get involved in amending legislation.
