Vol. 222 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Industrial Grants.

63.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if the corporations or industries seeking grants state the purpose for which the money is required; if so, if he will give the reason for the grant of £5,000 to a firm (name supplied); and whether it has any association with a court case in which a member of the firm was involved.

I am informed by An Foras Tionscal that it is an essential prerequisite for the consideration of an application for an industrial grant that full information is forthcoming regarding its purpose.

The report of An Foras Tionscal for 1965 shows that approval was given for a grant of £3,890 to the firm mentioned by the Deputy. I understand from An Foras Tionscal that the grant was towards the firm's capital expenditure on buildings and machinery for the purpose of enlargement and adaptation to make the undertaking more efficient.

I am also informed that there was no association between the consideration of the application and the court case mentioned by the Deputy.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary in a position to state whether the buildings were built and the machinery was purchased?

I am not in a position to say.

The Parliamentary Secretary is not in a position to say that?

I know the grant was paid. That is all the information I have.

I know the grant was paid. I should like to know if the purposes for which the grant was sought were complied with and that it was not devoted towards the cost of a certain legal action.

I have not got the information.
