Vol. 222 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary Schools.

120.

asked the Minister for Education if he intends to proceed with the erection of a new national school at Turraheen, Rossmore, County Tipperary.

Turraheen national school is a two-teacher school in the parish of Clonoulty with an enrolment of some 47 pupils.

An investigation has been carried out as to how primary schooling facilities in this parish might suitably be reorganised to the best educational advantage of the children. It has been decided that the existing two-teacher school at Rossmore should be enlarged to serve as a central school to which children from Turraheen, which is 2½ miles away, and from Glenough, which is 3¼ miles away, will be brought by means of State-aided transport. In the circumstances, it is not intended to proceed with the erection of a new school building at Turraheen.

121.

asked the Minister for Education when it is proposed to commence work on the erection of a new national school at Barnahown, Araglen to replace the existing school at Ballyheaffy, Araglen, County Tipperary.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to his question of 8th February, 1966, regarding the erection of a new national school to replace Ballyheaffy National School. There has been no change in the position since then.
