Vol. 222 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Provision of Dentures.

40.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Social Welfare the present conditions governing the provision of artificial dentures.

The dental benefit scheme operated under the Social Welfare Acts provides for the supply of dentures to qualified insured persons at controlled prices subject to a contribution by the insured person according to a fixed scale of charges. To qualify for benefit under the scheme a person aged 21 years or over must have (a) at least 156 employment contributions paid in respect of him and (b) at least 26 employment contributions paid in respect of or credited to him in the relevant contribution year.

Persons under 21 years of age are qualified for benefit when 26 employment contributions have been paid in respect of them.
