Mr. O'Malley
The patient in question was treated in a maternity hospital between 17th July and 24th August, 1965. It appears that she developed a pleural effusion shortly before her baby was born. However, an application for services under the Tuberculosis Scheme was not received by the Dublin Health Authority until 1st September, 1965, a week after she had been discharged from hospital. The normal practice in such cases is that the health authority assume liability from the date of notification and this is the reason why Dublin Health Authority declined to pay for the patient's stay in hospital. I propose to ask the health authority to review their decision in this case.
