Vol. 222 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Payment of Disability Benefits.

22.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare what was the cause of the delay in issuing the pay order for disability benefits for the last week in April, which did not reach the Tralee agent of his Department until the following week; and if in view of the inconvenience and hardship caused to recipients of disability benefit by this delay, he will take steps to ensure that it does not occur again.

A number of disability benefit cheques which were due to be dispatched to the Tralee local agent on Wednesday, 27th April, were inadvertently misplaced and when the error was discovered on Friday, 29th April, they were dispatched direct to the beneficiaries. Steps are being taken to avoid a recurrence.

Will the Minister make sure there will not be a recurrence of this?

That is just what I have said.
