Vol. 222 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Voting in Presidential Election.

21.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether voters in the Presidential election should express their preference by placing the figure 1 opposite the name of the candidate of their choice; and if he will confirm that everyone who has a vote in a Dáil general election is entitled to vote in the Presidential election.

The answer to both parts of the question is "Yes".

Is the Minister aware that the reason I put down this question is that there appears to be a lot of misunderstanding and confusion among the people? I hoped that a statement from him might clear the matter but there cannot be much publicity given to "Yes".

If I said "No", there would not be any given to it either.

Would the Minister not consider making a short, clear statement to clear people's minds?

I did not want to repeat what the Deputy asked.
