Vol. 222 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork City Parking Fines.

17.

Mr. Barrett

asked the Minister for Justice the number of fines imposed upon motorists for parking, waiting or stopping or kindred offences against the Road Traffic Act in MacCurtain Street, Cork since the inception of the new traffic regulations in the city, and the aggregate amount of such fines to the nearest possible date.

In the period from 2nd February, 1966, the date on which the one-way street system began to operate in Cork, to 20th May, 438 "fine-on-the-spot" notices were issued in respect of vehicles parked in MacCurtain Street. The "fine" was paid in 306 cases, summonses to court were issued in 77 cases in which the time for payment of the "fine-on-the-spot" had expired and the time for payment had not yet expired in the remaining 55 cases. Thirty-three of the court cases had been disposed of and the remaining 44 were still pending.

Payments made to the Gardaí in respect of the notices issued totalled £306 and the fines imposed by the court in the 33 cases dealt with amounted to £45 17s. 6d.
