Vol. 223 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ex-RIC Pension.

4.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that an applicant (name supplied) was refused an ex-RIC pension despite the fact that his resignation from the RIC on national grounds was well attested and witnessed by local colleagues; and if he will now re-investigate this case and take steps to grant a pension to this man.

The applicant's case was considered by the two Committees of Inquiry into Resignations and Dismissals from the Royal Irish Constabulary set up in 1922 and 1934. The reports of the Committees were considered by the various Ministers for Finance at the time they were made and on a number of occasions subsequently. It was not considered, however, that the issue of the certificate required for the grant of a pension under section 5 of the Superannuation and Pensions Act, 1925, would be justified in this case.

Having regard to the full consideration which this case has already received and to the lapse of time since the applicant's resignation I regret that I cannot now consider re-opening his case.
