Joint Committee on Assisted Dying to discuss the ethics of end-of-life care

The Joint Committee on Assisted Dying will meet on Tuesday October 10th on the topic of the ethics of end-of-life care.

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 4 of Leinster House between 11am-2pm.

The following representatives are due to appear:


• Ms Elma Walsh - Witness on the topic of end-of-life care
• Mr John Wall - Witness on the topic of end-of-life care
• Mr Tom Curran - Witness on the topic of end-of-life care
• Mr Garret Ahern - Witness on the topic of end-of-life care

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Michael Healy-Rae said: “We welcome the opportunity to hear from a variety of witnesses on the topic of the ethics of end-of-life care. We have recently heard from witnesses from European jurisdictions where there is assisted dying, the international experience of assisted dying, and also professional and ethical issues.”

“This is an emotive subject and we are grateful to hear from witnesses with lived experience of this important topic as it pertains to end-of-live and palliative care.”
