Vol. 223 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Chairman of Radio-Telefís Éireann.

18.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs what the salary and other emoluments, including any house or other accommodation, will be of the incoming Chairman of Radio-Telefís Éireann.

No change is being made in the remuneration of the Chairman of Radio-Telefís Éireann which will continue to be £1,000 per annum. He will not receive any special emoluments.

Will the Minister not agree, in view of the depressed state of the economy, that it is completely unfair and unjust that a man who will get a golden handshake of £8,000 as announced by the Minister for Finance and a pension of more than £3,000 per annum after a short service will now walk into the position of Chairman of Radio-Telefís Éireann when we have several people who would possibly do just as good a job on that £1,000? What special qualifications has this man?

I do not agree. He is a very good chairman and he is well worth the small amount of money he will get.

What about the fitters?
