Vol. 223 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - TV Advertising.

19.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will introduce amending legislation to give him power under section 20 of the Broadcasting Authority Act, 1960, to control plugging on TV during non-advertising programmes.

I do not consider it necessary to introduce legislation as suggested by the Deputy.

Is the Minister aware that a certain Dublin brewery is constantly being plugged on Telefís Éireann? Three or four Sunday nights ago, on a scripted show the name of the firm was mentioned. In view of the vast amount of money spent by Messrs Beamish of Cork, would the Minister——

That is advertising.

——consider giving the same type of free publicity to Beamish's?

What about Murphy's?

I thought the Deputy was referring to plugging the Presidential candidate when I saw this question down.

Where the name of a stout is mentioned, the Cork brewery should also get publicity.

Guinness's are helping to keep the country going at present.

We are concerned with the elimination of all plugging from the television service.

It is a pity you did not do it months ago in a political way.
