Vol. 223 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Closing of Kerry School.

42.

asked the Minister for Education whether he has received a letter from the parents' association of Currans, Farranfore, County Kerry, protesting at the proposed closure of their local national school; what comment he has to make on the points raised by the association in the letter; and what action he proposes to take in the matter.

I have received a memorandum from the parents' association of Currans, Farranfore, regarding the proposed closing of Currans national school and have given full consideration to the points raised therein. I am satisfied that that memorandum does not contain any argument which would warrant the departure from a proposal which is solely designed to cater in the best possible way for the education of the children from the Currans area.

It is the intention, therefore, to proceed on the basis of amalgamating the Currans school with the Ranalough schools in the same parish and providing a transport service to the latter schools.

This service would be so arranged that the children would be collected at points convenient to their homes. The cost of the service would be borne out of State funds.
