asked the Minister for Education when it is proposed to replace the existing primary school at Doolough, Geesala, County Mayo.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo School.
Mr. O'Malley
I would refer the Deputy to the reply given by me on 27th September, 1966. I have at present nothing to add to that reply.
I take it that the school is still open and operating? The Minister, of course, is aware, or should be, that two inspectors recently carried out an inquiry there?
Mr. O'Malley
Yes.
Has the Minister got the result of that inquiry?
Mr. O'Malley
Yes, I have. At the request of the Reverend Manager, we did send a senior official of my Department to a meeting of the parents and all but two of the parents agreed to the amalgamation.
All but two parents at the meeting.
Mr. O'Malley
Yes; this is my information. The parents meeting was held and all but two were in favour of amalgamation.
That is not right. I hope the Minister is not going to close this school. There are a lot of things involved, apart from transport. There is a cultural set-up involved here. The Minister knows my interest.
