Vol. 226 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cross-Border Road Haulage.

2.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the number of licences issued to private operators in the road haulage business in respect of cross-Border operations for the period since road freight traffic was liberalised.

Up to 30th November, 1966, 87 road merchandise licences were issued by my Department to Northern Ireland licensed hauliers enabling them to engage in cross-Border carriage of goods for reward, excluding point-to-point haulage within the State. At the same date, vehicle entry licences had been issued in respect of 487 vehicles which these licensees are using or propose to use in the course of their cross-Border operations.

At the same date, 50 operators' licences and 162 vehicle licences had been issued by the Ministry of Development, Stormont, to road hauliers licensed to operate in the State.
