Vol. 226 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wool Crop.

3.

andMr. T. O'Donnell asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries of he is aware that sheep-farmers in mountain areas are finding it difficult to dispose of their 1966 wool crop; and, if so, what steps, if any, his Department have taken or propose to take to secure a profitable outlet for this commodity.

Information received by my Department indicates that the proportion of the mountain wool clip sold this year is generally not less than in other years. Some decline in price which took place at the end of the season would, of course, have affected any producers who deferred too long the disposal of their wool.

As I indicated in reply to questions by Deputy Donnellan on 17th November and Deputy Governey on 1st December, I am arranging for the introduction of legislation with a view to improving the marketing arrangements for wool.
