Vol. 227 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Purchase of Second-Hand Houses.

46.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will make arrangements to enable approved housing co-operative societies to obtain loans on behalf of their members for the purpose of purchasing second-hand houses.

As I indicated in reply to a question on 15th February last, it is a matter for each local authority to decide, in the light of their capital allocation, the extent to which they will make loans for the purchase of previously occupied houses. It has been suggested to them that loans for these houses should be made only in cases where a need for re-housing is established which would otherwise fall to be met by the local authority. Members of co-operative societies could be considered on this basis in the same way as other persons for loans for previously occupied houses.
