Vol. 227 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Tenant Purchase Scheme.

47.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will ensure that Dublin Corporation will submit a tenant purchase scheme to their tenants as soon as possible.

I understand that detailed proposals for a tenant purchase scheme are being considered by the corporation prior to its submission to me for approval. In accordance with normal practice, details of the scheme as approved by me can in due course be circulated by the corporation to tenants.

Will the Minister ensure that there will be no undue delay in putting a purchase scheme into operation as a result of opposition from members of the council, thereby depriving some workers of the opportunity of owning their own homes?

The Deputy is on the council and can do more than the Minister can.

Deputy Dunne may be on it himself soon.

Is Deputy Dowling suggesting that the Minister should use his powers to force councils to do something which the majority of the councillors do not want to do?

What does Deputy Dowling know about the workers?

I will deal with the proposals as soon as I get them.
