Vol. 227 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Vesting of County Sligo Houses.

48.

asked the Minister for Local Government why the tenants of local authority houses at Saint Mary's Green, Collooney, County Sligo have not yet been vested in spite of the fact that the tenants were given to understand that they would qualify for vesting within one year of tenancy and that they have now been tenants for three years.

A cottage provided under the Labourers Acts before 1st January, 1966, can be vested in the tenant under the Labourers Act, 1936, only in accordance with a purchase scheme made by the county council after public advertisement, approved by me and laid before Dáil Éireann for the prescribed period, and not annulled by the House.

I understand that the cottages to which the Deputy refers are included in the Sligo County Health District Purchase Scheme, 1966, which has been advertised by the county council for the past three weeks prior to its submission to me for approval. When and if the scheme is made in accordance with the requirements of the Act, as indicated, it will be possible for qualified tenants to vest under it.
