asked the Minister for Education if his recent announcement regarding a reduction in the size of classes will affect all types of schools; and if he will ensure that financial provision will be made by increasing the capitation fees payable, to compensate the managers of schools who employ extra staff other than those paid personal salaries.

Mr. O'Malley
The proposed reduction in the pupil-teacher ratio will apply to all national schools, except the special schools to which more favourable pupil-teacher ratios already apply. Increased grants will be paid in respect of additional members of religious orders who fill new posts thus created on the staffs of capitation schools.
