Vol. 228 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Provision of Car Parks.

19.

andMr. Harte asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the demand for the provision of a car park in Ballybofey, County Donegal; and if, in view of the fact that a substantial local contribution is forthcoming, he will consider allocating grants towards this scheme.

I understand that the provision of a car park at Ballybofey is being considered by Donegal County Council. As to the question of a grant for the scheme, I would refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 20. It is for the county council to submit a proposal.

20.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the urgent necessity for car parks in towns in rural Ireland; and, if so, if he will make money available for them.

I am aware that in some towns a need exists for the provision of off-street car parking facilities. All the local authorities concerned have been advised that allocations towards the cost of suitable schemes may be made from the annual Road Fund grants available to them.
