Vol. 228 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Allocation of Lobster Boats.

16.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries (a) the number of applications for lobster boats received during the past two years; (b) the number of successful applications during the same period; and (c) the number of boats he hopes to allocate during the coming 12 months.

The number of applications for lobster boats received by An Bord Iascaigh Mhara during the two years ended 30th April, 1967 was 190, of which 110 were approved, 49 were rejected, 21 were not proceeded with by the applicants and ten are still under examination. Of the 110 approved applications, boats have been issued in 38 cases, in 36 cases the applicants are awaiting issue of the boats and in the remaining 36 cases the applicants have either indicated that they do not wish to proceed or have not yet made the required prepayment. The Board estimates that some 50 lobster boats will be issued in the year commencing 1st May, 1967.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary give me a breakdown of the figures in relation to West Galway?

I am afraid I cannot give the detailed information asked for but I will be able to do so next week if the Deputy puts down a question.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary write to me?
