Vol. 228 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin City Development.

35.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give particulars of the arrangements and contract, if any, between Dublin Corporation and certain property companies for the development of the area west of Moore Street.

I understand the Dublin Corporation have decided to proceed for the compulsory acquisition of properties in the area between Moore Street/Parnell Street/Denmark Street and Sampsons Lane, and to conduct detailed negotiations for the redevelopment of the area in partnership with the property company which is the largest owner of land in the area. I understand that these decisions followed consideration by the corporation of outline proposals submitted by the company and discussion of the matter with business interests in the area affected. At this stage no contract exists between the corporation and the property company in question.

Could we have information from the Minister about this company? What is this company and whence has it come? What is this company with which Dublin Corporation propose to collaborate in this development?

Is it Irish or foreign?

I have the names here somewhere.

Are they pronounceable?

They are: the company is the Irish Property Development Corporation. What could be more Irish than that?

Would the Minister mind telling us who are the personnel of the Irish Allied Development Property Development Association and would he suggest that they should add to their name the words"Greyhound, Shamrock and Round Tower" further to emphasise their Irish national origin?

That is a separate question.

Will the Minister agree——

I do not know who they are.

Quite honestly I do not know who they are. They may all be named O'Flaherty, Dillon and O'Hara. Would the Minister agree with me that where a public authority like Dublin Corporation proceeds to exercise powers of compulsory acquisition in order to collaborate with a property development association who have already acquired a large area in the total area under consideration, the public should be informed not only that the company consists of the "Irish Greyhound, Round Tower, Shamrock Development Association" but also of the directorships and membership of the property development association concerned, unless we are all reconciled to selling the whole city of Dublin and the country to anybody who has surplus money today that he wants for the moment to deposit here?

I am calling Question No. 36.

This matter was discussed——

(Interruptions.)

It is the Minister's job to get information.

This matter was discussed by the Planning Committee of Dublin Corporation and was recommended by the Committee to the City Council and adopted by the City Council.

It may be excellent but I should like to——

This is not relevant to the question before the House. There are four remaining questions to the Minister for Local Government. I take it the House is agreeable to take these four questions. Question No. 36.
