Vol. 229 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballymun Television Reception.

4.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that television reception in the new houses in Ballymun, Dublin, is not satisfactory owing to the height of the new flats; and if in view of the fact that the tenants are not permitted to erect aerials he will give top priority to the erection of the long-promised master aerial; the reason for the delay in erecting this aerial; and when it will be erected.

I am aware that television reception in Ballymun is not satisfactory. At the request of my Department, Radio Telefís Éireann agreed to provide a multi-channel communal television-aerial service there and has since discussed its proposed scheme with other interested bodies. I understand that, although agreement has not yet been reached on all the detailed arrangements, the Authority will be inviting tenders for the supply and installation of the equipment within the next fortnight and that the service will probably be available in about six months' time.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary confirm that there has been no change of plan in this matter and that the master aerial will, in fact, be multi-channel?
