Vol. 229 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cavan Housing Grant.

6.

(Cavan) asked the Minister for Local Government how many applications were made by or on behalf of a person (name supplied) in County Cavan for payment of his housing grant; the date of each application; if he will explain the delay in carrying out inspection and in payment of the grant; and if he will arrange for immediate payment.

A completed form of application for grant has not yet been received in the Department in this case. The other parts of the question do not therefore arise. In a letter dated 7th instant the Deputy was informed that the Department's inspector was being instructed to inspect the house and assist the applicant to complete an application form.

(Cavan): Notwithstanding the fact that an application form may not have been completed, is the Minister aware that three or four letters were received in the Department from this man and the builder who supplied him with material?

There has been no application for a grant received yet.

(Cavan): Did the Minister's Department receive a number of letters from this man inquiring about the grant?

I have no knowledge of that. These letters may have been received. I have no knowledge of it.

(Cavan): The Minister may take it that there must be some misunderstanding.

There is no application for a grant. I am aware of that.

(Cavan): Will the Minister look into the matter with a view to expediting payment now if there has been a misunderstanding?

I have done that. I have sent an inspector to inspect the house and to assist the applicant to complete the application form.
