Vol. 231 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - West Galway Land Division.

29.

asked the Minister for Lands what proposals he has for the early division of land in West Galway; and the number of 45-acre holdings that have been allotted during the past two years.

Land Commission records are not kept by reference to specific districts such as that mentioned in the first part of the question. In County Galway as a whole, however, an area of 1,000 acres has already been allotted since 1st April last and for the entire year it may be possible to achieve an aggregate allotment in the region of 5,000 acres.

The precise information requested in the second part of the Question is not readily available. As of now the main relevant figures at my disposal for County Galway, in respect of the two-year period ended 31st March last, are that a total of some 11,600 acres was distributed amongst 862 allottees, including 4,400 acres by way of enlargements to 450 smallholders and 5,250 acres by way of migration and rearrangement to 240 tenants who surrendered lands in exchange.
