Vol. 231 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Loan Facilities.

38.

asked the Minister for Finance if he has received representations from the Irish Transport and General Workers Union regarding the provision of low interest loan facilities to persons purchasing their own houses; and what action he proposes to take in the matter.

I have received a copy of a resolution adopted at the annual conference of the Irish Transport and General Workers Union in May last requesting that arrangements be made with the Central Bank for the issuing of low interest credit facilities to members of the working classes purchasing their own houses.

The Central Bank has no function in this matter and it is not proposed, therefore, to take action on the lines suggested in the question.

With regard to State aids for housing, I would refer the Deputy to replies given by the Minister for Local Government to questions on 11 May and 15 June, 1967.
