Vol. 232 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Moy Drainage Scheme.

23.

asked the Minister for Finance when it is expected that the Moy drainage scheme will be completed; the number of unsettled claims for disturbances and damage which are in his Department; and when it is expected that these claims will be satisfactorily disposed of.

The Moy scheme will be completed in 1970. As I explained in reply to a question on 1st February, the Moy drainage scheme is being carried out primarily for the benefit of the farmers concerned and it has brought great improvement to the lands affected. Inevitably some damage to riparian land has resulted from the deposition of spoil etc., and all such claims are investigated and compensation is paid where genuine loss can be proved. Many claims have already been settled but there are about 200 still outstanding and they will be dealt with in due course.
