Vol. 233 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Autistic Children.

35.

asked the Minister for Health what accommodation is available for autistic children from rural areas; and if he proposes to make more accommodation available.

There is a special residential unit for mentally ill children, including autistic children, at St. Loman's Hospital, Ballyowen, County Dublin, and some children from rural areas are being treated there. I have been very concerned for some time about the need to provide further residential accommodation for mentally ill children and I intend that additional units, similar to that at St. Loman's Hospital, will be provided in Dublin and Cork. Children from outside the Dublin area will be admitted to both of these units.
