Vol. 233 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Children's Allowances.

55.

Mrs. Joan Burke

andMr. Ryan asked the Minister for Social Welfare if, having regard to the hardship suffered by widows who maintain their children at secondary and vocational schools so that they may obtain their leaving certificates and other suitable educational qualifications, he will have steps taken to pay children's and orphans' allowances in such cases until the children are aged 18 years; and the annual cost of so doing.

Legislation would be necessary to give effect to the Deputies' request and the introduction of such legislation is not contemplated at present.
