asked the Minister for Education if he has plans for (a) the erection of new schools in Laois-Offaly and (b) the provision of water and sewerage in existing schools there; if so, what schools are so listed for the constituency; and when the work is likely to be undertaken.

NOTE: In addition to the four cases listed at (b) in which works for the provision of water and sewerage are included in major proposed improvements schemes (i.e., those costing £2,000 and over), there are other schools in the constituency where water-flushed sanitation systems are being provided by managers under the terms of a recent general circular authorising them to undertake, without prior consultation with the Department, such improvements in the heating and sanitation of schools as are urgently needed.
In the cases generally, the arrangements are at different stages of progress. While everything possible will be done by my Department to eliminate delay, it is not possible at this stage to give a precise indication as to when work may commence on the different projects.
