asked the Minister for Local Government the total subsidies paid (a) by the Government and (b) by the local authorities to private housing in each of the past three years.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to have it circulated with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:—

Amount paid out of taxation or rates to meet loan charges on moneys borrowed for the payment of grants for the building of new houses and the reconstruction and improvement of existing dwellings in accordance with grant schemes for which the Minister for Local Government is responsible.
