asked the Minister for Education the number of primary schools at which untrained teachers are employed.
There are 1,398 primary schools in the State in which untrained teachers are employed. This figure includes 267 convent and monastery schools where the majority of the untrained are merely religious novices who normally spend a few years teaching in an untrained capacity before entering a training college.
