Vol. 236 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Old Age Pensions.

86.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare what it would cost annually to increase the maximum non-contributory old age pension to £4 per week.

To increase the pensions of those now receiving the maximum rate of £3 5s 0d to £4 would cost £780,000. A corresponding increase of 15/- to those receiving partial pensions would cost an additional £3,570,000, giving a total of £4,350,000.

If the rates were increased as indicated it would be desirable to extend the means limit for pension. It would not be possible to estimate the extra number of pensions which would be involved.
