Vol. 238 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Serviced Sites for Itinerants.

17.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of local authorities who have provided serviced sites for itinerants' settlements.

Seven local authorities have provided serviced camping sites for itinerants and work is in progress on a site being provided by an eighth local authority.

Did the Minister do anything about the antagonism of the Mayor of Galway and the Fianna Fáil councillors towards the provision of a site for the itinerants in that city? Can the Minister do anything to change the Mayor of Galway's approach to the matter?

If the Deputy examines the thing he will, I think, find that it is not a question of Fianna Fáil councillors.

It is certainly not a question of Labour councillors anyway.

Fianna Fáil have not got a majority on that body.

Unfortunately.

This has not been decided on political lines, unlike a great many other things.

The Minister is aware that the Mayor of Galway is opposed to the provision of sites for itinerants in Galway.

I am aware that is not the position.

What the Deputy says is not true.
