Vol. 239 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pig Rations.

13.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries whether he will introduce regulations whereby it would be necessary for manufacturers of pig rations to specify on the bags containing the ration the variety of the protein contained in the bag e.g. fishmeal, pollard, meat and bone meal, so that those engaged in pig rearing can differentiate as between quality and price of rations.

The whole question of quality control of compound feeding stuffs including the feasibility of manufacturers declaring the percentage of the separate ingredients is being examined by my Department. I am advised, however, that so far there is no reliable method of checking the actual ingredient which supplies protein in a compound feeding stuff.
