Vol. 241 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Housing.

16.

asked the Minister for Local Government if there are any proposals before him for the provision of flats or houses under the local authority housing scheme in the Holles Street and Fenian Street area, Dublin.

There are no such proposals before me. Dublin Corporation are, however, preparing plans at present for a scheme of 72 flats at Fenian Street.

17.

asked the Minister for Local Government what proposals the Dublin Corporation have under consideration at the moment for the provision of tenant purchase houses; the number to be provided; the location of the houses in each case; the price level intended; and the categories of persons who will be considered for these houses.

Dublin Corporation's purchase houses/private sites programme at 30th June, 1969, comprised 11,547 dwellings or sites. Work was in progress on 426 houses and was about to be commenced on some 1,376 houses or sites. Schemes were in formulation on acquired sites for 3,745 houses or sites, and land had been acquired for about 6,000 houses or sites.

I am not in a position at this stage to say how many of these dwellings will be tenant-purchase houses or what their price level will be. The average cost of a house in the corporation's most recent purchase schemes was £3,362. Preference in the allocation of purchase type houses is given by the corporation to persons on their approved waiting list for re-housing and to tenants of existing corporation dwellings.
