Vol. 241 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Devaluation of Franc.

245.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce what is the effect of the recent devaluation of the French franc on trade between this country and France; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Deputy will no doubt appreciate that it is too soon yet to give any realistic assessment, based on statistical information, of the effect of the recent devaluation of the French franc on trade between this country and France. I might add that I have received no indication so far that Irish exports have been seriously affected by this move. Since the devaluation will benefit French exporters, I would expect that they will gain some trade from exporters in other countries.
