Vol. 241 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Laois-Offaly Estates.

275.

asked the Minister for Lands when it is proposed to divide the lands on the Annesley Estate, Coolhenry, Ballickmoyler, County Laois; and if it is expected that this estate will be divided and allotted during the coming spring.

I understand that the preliminary inquiries on the ground in connection with the resale of this 217 acre property have been completed and it is hoped that plans will be approved so as to permit allocation of part of the lands next spring.

276.

asked the Minister for Lands the position in regard to the appeal concerning the Hipwell Estate, Rynn, Rosenallis, County Laois; and if it is proposed to have this holding acquired and divided amongst the local smallholders.

Proceedings for compulsory acquisition of this 71 acre property have reached the stage where an appeal lodged against the price fixed by the Land Commission is awaiting determination. Pending disposal of this appeal it is not possible to forecast what the outcome of the proceedings may be.

277.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission will purchase or acquire as a matter of urgency the estate of a person (name supplied) at Leharrow, Shannon Bridge, County Offaly, comprising 146 acres and at present on the public market, to relieve the congestion of the large number of local smallholders of less than £25 PLV.

There are no proceedings by the Land Commission for the acquisition of this property but inquiries are being arranged.

Would the Minister be prepared to examine this file personally, say tomorrow or the next day?

I have already done that.

Has the notice gone out, in case some "smart alec" appears here also?

As I said, I am making arrangements.

278.

asked the Minister for Lands when it is proposed to divide the lands on the Wellington Estate, Snugborough, Birr, County Offaly comprising 604 acres; and if it is expected that these lands will be divided during the coming spring.

Pending completion of the necessary inquiries on the ground it is not feasible to indicate just now when a scheme for the division of this substantial property can be formulated. Possession was taken by the Land Commission in December, 1967 and March, 1968.

279.

asked the Minister for Lands when it is proposed to divide the Conroy Estate, Hipwell, Oldtown, Portlaoise comprising 295 acres; and if it is expected that this estate will be divided during the coming spring.

An allotment of 109 acres on this estate was made to Bord na Móna last May subject to rights of turbary in favour of 14 persons over part of this area. It is hoped to allot the major portion—if not all— of the balance of the lands next spring.

280.

asked the Minister for Lands when it is proposed to divide the lands on the Fairtclough Estate, Whigsboro, Birr, County Offaly, comprising 401 acres; and if these lands will be divided during the coming spring.

The formulation of plans for the division of this estate has reached an advanced stage and it is hoped to allot a substantial part of the lands next spring.
