Vol. 241 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Estate.

281.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state (a) the number of applications received by his Department for the Peet Estate, Ballymacelligott, County Kerry, (b) the number of applicants allocated parts of the estate, (c) the total acreage of each successful applicant before division, (d) the total acreage allocated to each successful applicant and (e) the total acreage of each unsuccessful applicant.

Replies to the various parts of the question are as follows: (a) 35; (b), (c) and (d) of a total of 151 acres purchased on the Peet estate, an area of 132 acres was allotted some months ago as follows:

103 acres, in a size range varying from eight to 19 acres, for seven smallholders (adjoining or very close to the estate);

19 acres for two persons who surrendered lands in exchange;

10 acres by way of three amenity plots and some perches to the county council for road-widening.

The existing lands of the seven smallholders who were allotted enlargements ranged in size from 15 acres to 69 acres, with rateable valuations of between 15/- and £32 13s.

(e) Of 21 unsuccessful applicants for allotments on this estate, 15 resided more than a mile distant. The holdings of the remaining six varied in size from one to 36 acres.

Applications from these parties were fully considered in competition with the other applications received but, having regard to the acreage available for disposal and other considerations (mainly non-dependence on agriculture) it was not found possible to provide them with allotments.
