With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 313, 314, 315 and 316 together.

The new preventive centre at Finglas is scheduled for completion by September, 1970.

Children and young persons under detention in industrial and reformatory schools receive education at primary school level and at post primary school level if, in the opinion of the school managers, they are fitted for a post primary school course. In addition, by arrangement with the vocational education committees, those children who would benefit by such instruction have available to them the services of teachers of manual training and arts and crafts.

Upon completion of a period of detention in Marlborough House, boys from the country are taken home by the gardaí and those from the city and surburban areas are released to the custody of a parent or older member of the family.

The number of children sent on detention to Marlborough House during the year ended 30th September, 1969 was 324.
