Vol. 242 No. 9

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - Braille Producing Equipment.

35.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will introduce a duty free regulation concerning the importation into the country of braille producing equipment.

Braille printing machinery and ancillary equipment are not liable to customs duty on importation. They may also be imported free of turnover and wholesale taxes by printers and other registered persons. Typewriters equipped with braille characters are liable to customs duty but there is provision for the issue of licences enabling them to be imported free of duty. There is no provision for licences for the importation of any article free of turnover tax or wholesale tax and I do not propose to introduce such provision.
